Today Homes house of the year silver award

While our athletes in Rio have been amassing a good haul of silver medals, Today Homes has also earned a silver award at the 2016 Canterbury Region House of the Year Awards.

As local Canterbury builders we were very proud to learn that we had achieved this silver award for a modern home we built in Marshlands. This 224m2 home was entered in the PlaceMakers New Home category for homes between $400,000 and $500,000.

Key design features of this award-winning home include monopitch roofing and vibrant yellow accents which flow through from the front door to the kitchen lights. The home is clad in plastered Rockcote Integra concrete panels with schist veneer used effectively to add interest.

We were thrilled with the top quality result we achieved for the owners of this home, which consists of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, three living spaces and a separate laundry. The glossy white kitchen, complete with a walk-in pantry, is a stand-out feature of the house. Also notable is the luxurious master bedroom with its tiled ensuite. Sweeping decking makes the most of the sunny backyard and the home’s indoor-outdoor flow. With all of this on offer, we are sure that the owners will enjoy entertaining in this home during the summer.

House of the year logo

This well-designed Marshlands home is marvellously modern under monopitch roofing. Plastered Rockcote Integra concrete panels have the exterior covered. Designa Schist veneer adds a bit of rock-star appeal to the street frontage. Designed for happy family living, the home’s 224sqm floorplan embraces three bedrooms, two bathrooms, three living spaces and a separate laundry. The open-plan living area brings it all together.

Complete with walk-in pantry, the wonderful kitchen is ideal for feeding growing kids as well as preparing dinner parties for friends. The home enjoys great indoor-outdoor flow making it perfect for entertaining. Sweeping decking sets the scene for weekend brunch or sunset wine. The private backyard and lawn basks in all-day sun. The master bedroom promises added luxury for the owners. Floor-to-ceiling tiles grace the well-appointed ensuite. With good looks, a great layout and peaceful surroundings, this private home is a delight to live in.

Would you please convey to the management, staff, the builder and all subcontractors that were involved in the build of our Rolleston home - thanks. After living in the same house for 48 years the boss finally prised me out.

From the time we walked into your display home we were impressed, not only with the show homes, but by the staff.

With all the bad things one hears about builders we were pleased that we chose Today Homes as our builder. To have a new house built and the only maintenance that was required to fix after we moved in was adjust the hinges on the front door was bloody amazing! Especially compared to other builds I had heard about going on and on. This just proves the standard of your contractors.

We have lived in the house for just over a year and are very happy, none more so than Lyn. We wish you well for the future in the building industry and will have no hesitation to recommend your company to all.

Thank you for making our build such an easy and pleasant experience.

We continually sing the praises of Today Homes and recommend at any and every opportunity. Our experience with the build is that it went like clock work and weekly update mirrored what had been planned to happen. It was stress free and when it came to a small number of things at the end that we needed addressed its was easily remedied and again stress free.

We have been so pleased they had suggested a drop down ladder to utilise the space in the upstairs gable of the garage - one of the best things. The kitchen joiners and installers were wonderful to work with - especially with additional ideas and did an excellent job.

The builder - so easy to work with and again excellent work. The building site was always kept tidy. Everyone on the job are super nice people all the trades and they sing the praises of working with Today Homes as well. Right to the end with the cleaners coming in they spoke only of good things being employed to do this work as well.

I have no hesitation in recommending Today Homes to other prospective home builders.

Canterbury building company Today Homes is looking forward to celebrating its 30th year building homes for families in the greater Christchurch region.

“Now that 2016 is well underway we are getting excited that next year will mark 30 years since we started Today Homes back in 1987”, company owner Graeme Sanders says.

Having survived the aftermath of the stock market crash in the 1980s and the effects of the global recession, Today Homes has seen lots of ups and downs in the local building industry.

“Obviously in the post-earthquake environment there has been a lot of building activity happening in the region over the past few years,” Graeme says.

“Many companies have understandably come into the region from outside or tried to expand rapidly to take advantage of the need for new housing to replace that which has been lost. However for us it is very much a case of business as usual and continuing what we have been doing since we started,” he says.

Graeme says that Today Homes has always had a “steady as she goes” approach.

“There is a temptation for companies to try and make hay while the sun shines, as it were. However I have always been very careful to avoid over-committing our team,” Graeme says.

“We have been very privileged to have been able to help so many Christchurch families to move on with their lives by building them new homes. Our aim is to build houses that will meet the needs of Cantabrians both now and in the future, and we intend to keep doing this for many years to come,” Graeme says.

We have recently had our new home built by Today Homes and we just wanted to acknowledge the wonderful work by your staff.

Firstly I would like to acknowledge the great work done on the QS side by Brendon. Nothing was a problem and he helped make things easy by making all accounts clear and easy to understand – which is quite a task on a build with credits and debits along the way and a few variations. John also did a great job on the plans and was very accommodating and helped us build what we really do think is our perfect house – he made some suggestions in the design which helped make it better than it would have been without his great advice.

Lastly but certainly not least is Lyndon, your contracts manager. He deserves a medal. What a great employee you have there. He honestly went way above and beyond to help us with our build and we can’t speak highly enough about him. Our house was a rebuild which in itself did make the whole process quite stressful. Today Homes really helped us as we had never been through the build process before and the team was a fantastic help.

Could you please pass on our sincere thanks to your team. I do apologise that I haven’t written this sooner but life does sometimes get in the way but I would really like to convey our sincerely thanks to everyone involved in our build especially Lyndon.

My sister has also built with Today Homes over the same period (Jo-anne & Grant) and I know that they also praise the great work. We have been recommending Today Homes to all that ask how our build went and would absolutely use Today Homes again if rebuilding.

We do sincerely appreciate all that Lyndon and your team have done.

I would like to say a huge thank you to you all for being involved with the building of my new home.I am so lucky that Today Homes built my new home as I could not have got a better building company.

From the first time I spent time with you, till finish, Today Homes have been so good to deal with, and I don’t feel it has been stressful dealing with Today Homes.

Communication has always been frequent and any questions I had along the way were always answered promptly. All the sub contractors I had dealings were also really good to deal with.

During the rebuild I had an email every week, letting me know where things were at and what was coming up - this was really good. I have heard so many stories from people who have built with other companies where there was a great lack of communication and many delays.

I would strongly recommend Today Homes to anyone wanting to build. So thank you (and for your cheerful weekly updates) to all those behind the scenes people who have all done a great job

Logan Fort and Sonia Newton are delighted with the new home that Today Homes has built for them in Rolleston and especially pleased that they and their two children have been able to move in before Christmas as they hoped.

“We purchased the section on the 1st of April and we really wanted to be in before Christmas”, Sonia says. “Today Homes indicated that we would have the handover by 10th December and they have kept to their commitment which we think is really great.” In fact, the family’s 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom home was completed in November - well within the agreed timeframe.

Sonia says that Today Homes has been “amazing” throughout the whole build process, which she describes as “extremely smooth”. “We had tried a few different companies before we came across Today Homes but it always seemed to be a headache when it came to agreeing on the contract price and working with the bank,” she says. “Today Homes worked in really well with our Bank Manager and helped translate the bank’s requirements into plain English for us, so everyone was happy.” “They also helped to show us where we could cut back on costs to make the build fit within our budget, for which we were so grateful,” Sonia adds.

Sonia says both she and Logan really appreciated the way in which Today Homes allowed them to have as much or as little input as they wanted at various stages of the build process. “The communication from the Today Homes team was excellent,” Sonia says. “They answered their phones when you called and if they were unavailable and you left a message, they called you back promptly.”

Sonia says the couple are enjoying everything about their new home. “This is our first home and we are really stoked,” she says. Sonia says that she would highly recommend Today Homes to anyone looking to build – in fact she has already referred her grandmother and her sister!

I thought I would drop you note to say how impressed I have been with the building of my house with Today Homes.

What can one say but Fantastic and what a team. From start to finish I was kept Informed of the whole process from concept to design to build to finish, your project manager had a detailed progress plan to completion and what was said to happen on a particular date happened, give or take a day and nothing was ever a problem and if it was, it was quickly sorted.

Other people I have have spoken to have said that they don’t receive such a detailed progress report from there building firm, even your receptionist sent regular weekly updates as to what was happening to the house that week, but you guys were so efficient it had already started before I got the updates.

The builder was such a friendly guy and the new homes consultant was always good to talk to. Even the subcontractors all spoke highly of Today Homes, and to be honest whatever system Today homes uses, all the other building firms should adopt too!

I have even spoken to other people who have built with Today Homes and they all say the same thing “They would build again with Today Homes”

P.S I work part time for a high end security firm and our motto is that The strength of the team is each individual member, and the strength of each member is the team. I certainly believe Today Homes has that same strength.
